Preparing You ("the app", "we", "us") is a faith-based onboarding companion for The Living Network. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the app you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information — your email address and a password (stored securely as a salted hash, never in plain text), plus your display name and the region you enter.
- Profile photo — if you choose to add one.
- Messages — private messages you send to others are end-to-end encrypted; we cannot read their contents. We store the encrypted message and basic metadata (sender, recipient, time) to deliver it.
- Ministry relationships — your choice of a Personal Contact Minister (PCM) and related election records, so the app can connect you with your minister and congregation.
- Approximate location — if you allow it, we use your device location (or, as a fallback, your time-zone city) only to show local weather. You can decline; the feature simply won't show.
- Notifications — if you enable push notifications, we store an anonymous push subscription so we can alert you about messages, townhalls, and elections.
- Assistant (“Paul”) conversations — questions you ask the in-app assistant, and any voice audio you record for it, are sent to our AI providers to generate a response. They are not used to build a profile of you.
- Usage — your progress through the onboarding journey (e.g. which videos and books you've completed) so the app can resume where you left off.
How we use your information
- To provide and maintain your account and the app's features.
- To connect you with your minister, congregation, and townhalls.
- To deliver messages and notifications you've opted into.
- To answer your questions through the in-app assistant.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
Service providers we share data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share only what's necessary with trusted processors who run the service on our behalf:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
- Render — application server hosting.
- Netlify — web hosting.
- Anthropic and OpenAI — power the in-app assistant (text) and voice transcription.
- ElevenLabs — text-to-speech for the assistant's voice.
- Daily.co — live audio/video for townhalls.
- EmailJS — sending transactional emails (e.g. password reset).
- Open-Meteo — weather data (receives only approximate coordinates, never your identity).
We may also disclose information if required by law.
Data security
Connections are encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Private messages are end-to-end encrypted so that only you and your recipient can read them. Passwords are stored as secure hashes. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Data retention & your rights
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data — including deleting your account — by contacting us at the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time.
Children
Preparing You is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
